Multimedia is the use of computers to present text, graphics, video, animation, and sound in an integrated way. Long touted as the future revolution in computing, multimedia applications were, until the mid-90s, uncommon due to the expensive hardware required. With increases in performance and decreases in price, however, multimedia is now commonplace. (Beal, n.d)
There are many benefits to the use of Multimedia in education. Among these is that it creates a successful method of teaching and learning. Despite the benefits however, there can be disadvantages including, the expense of multimedia devices.
With the new improvements in educational technology, instructional technology and multimedia the definition of literacy has changed to include the likes of visual literacy, digital and technological literacy.
